Promoting original, world-class research into the history of British art and architecture

The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art is a unique organisation, part of Yale University, that promotes original research into the history of British art and architecture. It was founded in 1970 and endowed by a gift from Paul Mellon. Keepthinking helped them establish their digital strategy and designed and developed a new brand and website, powered by Qi, our Collections Management System.

Promoting original, world-class research into the history of British art and architecture

The Paul Mellon Centre was in need of a bifold solution

A new brand to represent the centre and the scope of its activities, and a new website to promote the work of the centre to as wide an audience as possible in the UK and internationally. Keepthinking could utilise many of its talents in this project that intends to highlight the uniqueness of the centre, as well as presenting informative and scholarly resources in an engaging way, communicating the mission of the PMC articulately.

The Paul Mellon Centre was in need of a bifold solution

Keepthinking designed a new digital brand, based on the values and feelings associated with the Centre

Ambitious, forward-thinking, scholarly, elegant, world-class, research. It develops through the main logotype, strapline and glyph versions. This new identity, typography and colour palette are incorporated into the fully responsive website, that adapts to any screen size.

Our approach

The design process was divided into short, iterative steps. Branding and user experience for the website were developed separately, to then be combined at the Art Direction stage, in order to create an image-led site where every page is very visual and appealing. The use of colour is a striking feature of the website, with each section having its own different shade, in order to aid recognition and to give each section its own character.
